Chelsea Football Club is an English professional football club based in Fulham, London. Founded in 1905, the club competes in the Premier League, the top division of English football. Chelsea are among England's most successful clubs; they have been league champions six times and won over thirty competitive honours, including six European trophies. Their home ground is Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea won their first major honour, the League Championship, in 1955. The club's greatest period of success has come during the last two decades; winning 21 trophies since 1997. Domestically, Chelsea have won five league titles, seven FA Cups, five League Cups and four FA Community Shields, as well as two UEFA Cup Winners' Cups. In international club football, Chelsea have won one UEFA Champions League, two UEFA Cup Winners' Cups, one UEFA Europa League, one UEFA Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.
Chelsea's regular kit colours are royal blue shirts and shorts with white socks. The club's crest has been changed several times in attempts to re-brand the club and modernise its image. The current crest, featuring a ceremonial lion rampant regardant holding a staff, is a modification of the one introduced in the early 1950s. The club has sustained the fifth highest
average all-time attendance in English football. Their average home gate for the 2017–18 season was 41,500, the sixth highest in the Premier League. Since July 2003, Chelsea have been owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. In 2018, they were ranked by Forbes magazine as the seventh most valuable football club in the world, at £1.54 billion ($2.06 billion).
Chelsea's success has seen them regularly feature in fiction, even featuring in their own film, The Blues Brothers. They have also been featured in a variety of video games, including EA Sports' FIFA series.
In 2011, Chelsea became the first London club to win the UEFA Champions League, and in 2012 they won the UEFA Europa League, making them the only club in history to have won all three of UEFA's main club competitions. The club also won its first UEFA Super Cup in 2013 and its first FIFA Club World Cup in 2012.
In 2017, Chelsea celebrated their 1,000th game in the top flight of English football, becoming the first London club to do so.
The club has had a long-standing rivalry with fellow London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. The rivalry is rooted in the close proximity of all three clubs, as well as their respective home stadiums being within four miles of each other.
